Gornja Radgona Parish Church of St. Peter and Column

The beginnings of Radgona's preparish date back to the 9th century, when king Privin, who was in favour of the Catholic Church, ruled over Radgona and its vicinity. Today's Parich church St. Peter was first mentioned in 1466. During the War for Slovenia in 1991 its bell tower was ruined by projectiles . The churc was completely renovated in 1993 when it got the new organ and a bigger organ loft.
The column dates from 1525, when numerous pests (the plague, drought, wars etc.) tormented our region. The column is composed of a square pedestal with a skimmed upper edge, a rolled sharp-edged column, and a small chapel, opened up in three directions, with an arched four-sided pyramid roof. The column is located in the parking area in front of Gornja Radgona Bus Station.
